As most of you regulars know, our host for the forums and our website (but not the game server) had a disaster and lost everything, including all data and backups. Fortunately, I made relatively recent backups on my local computer that were not lost. It's been a long struggle with a series of problem after delay after problem to get the forums restored, but we're finally here.

Big thanks to all community members who continued to play in GB over our forum downtime and to those who took initiative to set up temporary forums for us while we were down. You guys are awesome. Big thanks to NG for the pending module updates that we finally have the tools to get into place now.

Also notice the new forum engine we're running and the new features it allows. It sure feels strange to me, having used the old engine for 7 years, but I'm sure I'll get used to this in time.

Many of the downloads on our website are now back up and available for download, but I know there were some added after my last complete website backup, so we'll have to identify those, find the source files, and re-upload (including for instance our custom appearance.2da). Please bump any forum threads that have download links dead for essential data files so we can re-upload them.

We weren't able to link your old forum avatars to this new engine, but you can download the recovered avatar file at http://www.shadowthieves.net/download/avatars.zip if you don't have a local copy of your avatar.

Finally, we need to test these forums to make sure they're working as expected, including that you can login, you have access to the forums you should and don't have access to private forums that you shouldn't, and that new accounts can be successfully created. Please post in reply here if you experience any problems.

Well, I was able to log on and it appears I have access to a forum or two.

It is going to take me a little while to figure out the new version of the board and get the website up and running again.

Well a big thank you to Khaveen for all his hard work, and a welcome back to Shade!

I've moved across a few posts from the Temporary forums, I think I've got all the vital ones barring the Mysterious Device sub forum, which requires a new sub-forum being created really.

Only thing I noticed is that I couldn't embed an image using the img /img codes, but that could just be me failing hard.

Other than that, everything seems great and sparkly and new

We should be able to eventually install some new themes/styles and change the colors to similar to before. There may be some glitches in getting there, but Shade may be able to help.



I've created a new campaign forum. Let me know if there are any problems.



I went back and confirmed the settings should allow for images, although I couldn't find the setting for img embedding in posts for some reason...

Amazing work Khaveen, I can't imagine how much of a severe pain in a multitude of naughty parts it must have been to get all this back up and running smoothly so I'll throw my sincere thanks in there aswell.

Now I can get back to my prior trawling through all the old posts to try and learn even a smidgen of the history of this place!

Oh, and this is a very minor nitpick, but the temporary forums had a pretty neat feature that made any new posts that had been made since the last time you logged in very easy to spot. Don't suppose it's possible to implement that feature in this new, shiny version is it? Again, no major issue if not, just a musing I was having.
